Raleigh Wedding DJ Spotlight at Wakefield Barn

Blair & Patrick’s Extravagant Wedding at Wakefield Barn Raleigh Couple’s Over The Top Wedding at the Wakefield Barn Real Wedding Spotlight- Raleigh Couple Blair and Patrick As we start a new year, we’re looking back at some of our most memorable weddings from 2021.

Stylus Weddings owner and DJ, Jason Huggins, met Blair while DJing at a club years ago. One night in the club, Blair told Jason that she’d ask him to be her wedding DJ if she ever got married.
And she meant it!
We were so excited to hear that Blair had met her fiance, Patrick! And even more excited to be there for them on their wedding day- especially when things were not going quite as planned!
Like many recent wedding couples, Blair and Patrick were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple contacted us at Stylus Weddings in January 2020 with their wedding date set for November 2020. We started working with them right away to plan all the details of their big day, but the pandemic had other plans. But by August 2020, it was clear that the pandemic wasn’t going anywhere. And Blair and Patrick made the difficult decision to postpone their wedding day.
A new wedding date was set for April 30, 2021, but the pandemic showed no signs of stopping, and the couple was forced to make another tough choice.
They set a new date for July 9, 2021. And what a wedding day it turned out to be! While the pandemic was still far from over, by July of 2021, COVID-19 infection numbers were down and Patrick and Blair decided to go ahead with the wedding. The wedding couple encouraged guests to get vaccinated in plenty of time for the special day. Blair and Patrick took extra precautions- setting up hand sanitizer stations and providing masks for wedding guests.
The wedding ceremony and reception took place at The Historic Wakefield Barn in Wake Forest, NC. This is a gorgeous venue that’s rich with North Carolina history, exquisite attention to detail, and magnificent views. It was an excellent choice for such a lovely couple!
Blair and Patrick are music lovers who wanted a mix of live music and tracks specially selected for them by our Stylus Weddings team. They didn’t want just any live music, though, they wanted a boy band! And The Historic Wakefield Barn was the perfect venue to feature such a unique wedding experience.
Boy band, Larger Than Life, came all the way to North Carolina from their home state of New York for the special day!
Blair and Patrick chose a classically styled ceremony that mixed both the old and the new.
The prelude and wedding party processional featured classical instrumental music, including an instrumental cello and piano cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love for the bride’s entrance. Meanwhile, Stylus Weddings’ Jason Huggins took care of all of the technical details of the ceremony including multiple microphones, other sound equipment, and playlists.
The ceremony, held in the grand hall upstairs, has a secret back entrance that was blocked by a flower wall. The bride and her father spent a few quiet moments together before smiling, and making the long walk to their friends, family, and- most importantly- Patrick.
The ceremony was performed by Pastor Paul and included the lighting of a unity candle while Holly, a friend of the wedding couple, sang a solo cover of Jasmine Rae’s When I Found You . After their first kiss and introduction as a married couple, The Platters’ With This Ring signaled the start of their recessional
It was the perfect wedding ceremony for Patrick and Blair!
So perfect, it’s hard to believe what was happening in the background- a hurricane!
Yes, you read that right.
At the last minute, a hurricane threatened to postpone their wedding again!
Luckily, they had the Stylus Weddings team on their side. Jason from Stylus Weddings joined forces with Sarah Skrobioalowski (one of Southern Oak Events’ amazing wedding coordinators) to reconfigure the timeline and adjust the setup to save the day- all while Blair and Patrick enjoyed time together and with their wedding guests.
Following the wedding ceremony, Blair and Patrick joined their guests for a cocktail hour with music coordinated by Stylus Weddings. At the same time, three members of the Stylus Weddings team and the couple’s wedding coordinator were busy transitioning the space used for the wedding ceremony into the space for the wedding reception. While the hurricane was not a part of the original agenda for the day, we made it work!
Even though the weather had interfered with the plan, the Stylus Weddings team was not going to let a little hurricane interfere with a good time!
By the time the wedding party and guests were ready for the reception, the space was ready for them while the storm raged outside.
The party got started as the wedding party was introduced to loud applause with Pitbull’s Fireball playing in the background.
The wedding couple chose Montel Jordan’s This is How We Do It for their big entrance- a fun, lively song that showcased the couple’s style.
Blair and Patrick’s first dance to Dan and Shay’s Speechless set the tone for the first part of the wedding reception, which was full of memorable, emotional moments. Wedding photographer Lindsay Cash and videographer Morgan Scott were there to capture the moment and record all that was yet to come on this special night.
Blair and her father, Steve, danced to the classic My Girl. And Patrick brought his mom, Candi, to the dance floor with The Perfect Fan by The Backstreet Boys.
Like many wedding couples, Patrick and Blair were thinking of loved ones who couldn’t share in their big day, but who joined them in spirit. In memory of Blair’s mother Vicki, Dan Kiernan (a member of Larger Than Life), sang a special song that reminded all of us to treasure those we love and appreciate the moments we have with them.
Following this song, a blessing was given by Blair’s brother-in-law, Jason, and a delectable dinner by Mulino Italian Kitchen was served.
In the toasts given by Ron (Best Man/Patrick’s dad), Jenna (Matron of Honor/Blair’s sister), and Paul (Bridesman/Friend), it was clear how much love was in the room.
Once the food was eaten and the toasts were given, Jason from Stylus Weddings, played an upbeat mix of beach tunes, country songs, and Motown. Because the pandemic caused the wedding to be postponed (and a hurricane outside threatened to shut it down), Beyonce’s At Last (You’re Finally Getting Married) was a favorite of the night.
It was a big day for the wedding couple! And it was also a big day for Patrick’s parents who had celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary a day earlier on July 8, 2021. Watching the two of them dance to Roberta Flack’s The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was a beautiful tribute to their love and marriage. It was also a wonderful way to highlight everyone’s hopes and wishes for Blair and Patrick’s on the first night of their marriage.
For most couples, that would have been the end to a perfect wedding day.
But Patrick and Blair aren’t most couples!
Stylus Weddings DJ, Jason Huggins, slowly faded the music and shifted the lights as the band, Larger Than Life, made their appearance at the upper level, and began making their way down the staircase flanked by cold-spark generators, delivering a stunning grand entrance to start their first live set.
Larger Than Life entertained the crowd while Stylus Weddings staff monitored the on-stage sound for the band and made sure the performance was going as planned as the storm continued outside.

After singing a set of more than twenty songs, Larger Than Life took a well-deserved break and the attention turned back to Blair and Patrick for their cake cutting. The bride and groom chose a lively song that matched their upbeat celebration for this special moment- Earth, Wind, and Fire’s September.
The cake cutting was followed by another round of dynamic dancing led by the DJ stylings of Stylus Weddings’ Jason Huggins that transitioned seamlessly into Larger Than Life’s second set.
As Larger Than Life soaked up the applause from the wedding guests, DJ Jason Huggins handled all of the transitions to guide the attention back to joining Blair and Patrick on the dance floor. The Stylus Weddings’ team also repositioned the cold sparks to the dancefloor and our guests of honor climbed up top to be flanked by the dynamic FX while their guests cheered them on.
The last DJ set of the night featured a mix of favorites from Miley Cyrus to Dr. Dre to Guns ‘N Roses and more. Finally fading from Jay Z into Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes’ (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life , Patrick and Blair took to the floor for the last dance of the night.
When the song faded out, the guests were directed to form a grand exit for the wedding couple. Surrounded by friends and family lighting the way with sparklers, Blair and Patrick walked together into their new life as husband and wife.
With pandemic date changes and unexpected weather concerns, Blair and Patrick were certainly met with challenges along the way. But nothing was going to stop this couple from having their dream wedding. It was a day they’ll never forget and just the beginning of their unique and excitement-filled love story. We at Stylus Weddings are honored that Patrick and Blair chose us for their special day!
We’d love to be there for your big day too! Let us know how we can help make your dream wedding a reality!
